There is some decent open land in the area between mount Shasta and Ashland Oregon. You want a rural setting, but its also nice to be close to a University town so that you have some culture and and progressively minded people to recruit from. There are only so many progressive university towns with open rural land on the boarders left....Even Eugene seems to have sprawled too far these days.

yeh, im not sure if i need to recruit...but it would be sweet to be near a town where i dont get the funny looks. but then again who cares about funny looks. dont even know if i wanna live there. i think i would just use it as a autonamous space, where like thinkers could do as thou wilt(nobodies business typa stuff). also dont know about building laws ect. i would like to be away from others, so that we can have parties with large speakers.

The problem with hosting an event that is open to the public on private land is that if anybody is caught selling drugs, including Narcs, they can not only arrest you for somebody else's crime, but they can teal your land as well as they take you to jail.

If this is for a close knit network of people, I would say go for it, but too many random people show up to mutant fest to have it hosted on private land.

good point...close net of people yes, but i guess it would be hard to control some things at times. i dont really want to do festivals, maybe micro-vals.
          good point.
im not much into flagrant drug use...oh wait, maybe i am...shit. ill have to think about that. thanx for all the input.

If you and your friends or other People, gather for some purpose, or Peaceably Assemble , on Public or Private Land, for any form of Cultural Expression -- i.e. barter faire, gathering, outdoor music festival, religious and/or political assembly, and/or other types of Peaceable Assembly, and/or to petition for Redress of Grievances, and/or generally to get togather in order to have a Peaceable Association -- the Religious Use Defense, and the Soapbox Decision are good to know. All these cases relate to a Person's Right to EXPRESSION of their CREED -- their expression of shared beliefs -- within the context of a Peaceable Assembly.

The Federal Department of Agriculture, Forest Service Regulation 36 CFR 251-261 is a good one to study because it outlines the Government's case, applied Federally. However, most locales: City, County and State, will use similar (generally applicable laws) in order to stop Peaceable Assemblies. There is an entire section in RFRA &93 on (generally applicable laws.)

Religious Use Defense, applies to all Peaceable Assemblies. If People Gather or Assemble Peaceably, they, as Individuals and Together (collectively), are being Constitutionally correct -- it is within an individual's inalienable Rights to (pursuit of happiness) and (Free exercise) of Religious/political/culural/lifestyle Expression of beliefs, i.e. CREED. How to Peaceably Assemble is a (power. .. held respectively by the People) [see U.S. Constitution]. Under RFRA &93, (generally applicable laws) -- such as (enforcement emphasis) or (Police State tactics) on the threshold of Peaceable Assemblies -- would violate First Amendment Freedoms.

            This is illegal.

Either Pro Se, or with your Lawyer, demand Religious Use Defense -- it is your right!

Of course it is your legal right to assemble, and have wild parties if you want.

Im just saying that if you own the land, and invite people you dont know onto the land, they can use the RAVE act to charge you for a crime that their Narcs committed. There might be some ways to protect you yourself, but its something you should look into.
Its not the right to assemble they get you for. Its a law that allows the government to charge organizers and venue owners with cries committed by random people, mostly drug offenses.

Im not saying you couldnt invite people onto your land....but it should be a word of mouth sort of thing, rather then something anybody could find out about by visiting a website.

It may be further north than you want but you can find land in Alaska for decent prices. I've seen 50+ acre parcels going for under $50K if you want to be "out there"

[sic] just to interject a note of caution: I too am a veteran and yes, the government is required (in some cases, not all - usually if the VA is the secondary) to cover the loan if you default on it, or, of course, if you have a regular VA loan. HOWEVER... IF you default through non-payment or whatever, the government will then take the land from you, just like a bank would. Covering the loan in case you default just means that they then own the land instead of you, and believe me when I say they'll come take it and evict you from it. They never do something for nothing.

        Hope this helps
