So... I see lots of topics on this AMF tribe except about AMF itself! I heard a rumour (what have you done to her...) that it will be in June near Shasta. I've also heard it will be in Canada (?!?) yet I see no posts regarding scouting. Could an omnipotent spokesperson who can enlighten me please do so? June's sooner than anticipated and I need to make plans if so as it's usually in August...

Re: AMF meets rainbo
Fri, June 8, 2007 - 4:57 PMYou are probably going to end up with MORE hippies from the west coast than last year, since many will not want to go to the gathering in Texas for whatever reasons. If the intent of this move was to keep hippies from attending, I dont think its going to work.
I will not be able to attend either gathering this year do to conflicting responsibilities. I prefered it in late July or early August, but Im not an organizer so I really dont have any say. -

Re: AMF meets rainbo
Sun, June 10, 2007 - 12:25 AMThe intent of the move as far as I can tell was to lessen the fire danger. Late June versus mid August is much less dry, therefore less hassle from rangers, etc. Save your speculation for the private bitch sessions, "Sentience". -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: AMF meets rainbo
Sun, June 10, 2007 - 10:55 AMMy it was just coincidence that I overheard several people who organize say how cool it would be to have them at the same time specifically for the reason I mentioned, then it actually happened. For all I know the other reason came first then I only heard the afterthoughts of some people noticed the date conflict. There was a lot of prejudace talk against hippies which I think is a little counter productive.
Anyway, Im mostly bummed because I really wanted to go to mutant fest but I have a schedule conflict. Purely selfish motivation. -

Re: AMF meets rainbow & fire dangers
Tue, June 12, 2007 - 11:30 AMhelloz and highz
I was at the mendo natl forest early this month by covelo for a regional rainbow gathering. The fire danger in this area, aswell as other Natl forests in the area (trinity-shasta-modoc) was very high. We had to be extremely careful in these areas because there was not enough snow last winter to saturate the ground/trees, etc. Being that I am not on AMF council i cant say for sure that 'keeping rainbows out" was discussed or not, but i can guarentee you that the fire danger in these places right NOW is very real. I cant imagine there isnt going to be a fire ban on these areas by the end of july. And you all know who attended last year how dry it was, and how goddamn cold it was at night for alot of people who didnt have buses, heated tents, etc.
Fire danger is real... Drainbows are real too. It brings to my attention a corny RAP about getting things done:
Once upon a time, there were four people.
Their names were Everybody, Somebody, Nobody and Anybody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was asked to do it.
Everybody was sure Somebody would do it
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it
When Nobody did it, Somebody got mad because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought Anybody could do it,
but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
Ended up Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have in the first place.
The moral of this story is that when you find yourself saying
"Somebody should pick up the trash on the trail / make a sign to mark a kitchen / organize the parking lot / dig a new shitter..."
Remember: YOU are Somebody!!!
Isn’t that what you’ve always wanted to be?

Re: AMF meets rainbow & fire dangers
Wed, June 13, 2007 - 3:42 PMI hope you have a great festival this year. I hope it works out, and if you have it in Northern California I might just be able to make it out for a few days.
To be fair, some of the rainbow kids that showed up last year were pretty wack. Still, some of my good friends attend rainbow and half of them do not even dress like hippies. There is a pretty strong anarcho-punk contingent that comes out of rainbow despite the dominant hippie trend. Even some of the hippies that come out of Rainbow are ultra militant tree spiking forest Anarchists....granted, there is a trend towards pacifism that I dont entirely agree with, but its not absolute.
I hope it works out for you this year, but I hope you reconsider making this a permanent trend.
